An anonymous donor has given a record-breaking $100 million to Toronto’s Centre for Addiction and Mental Health – opening up a whole new world of research opportunities for the organization.
CAMH works with employers and organizations to help those living with mental health, as well as their families and loved ones.
The donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, said in the media: “I believe CAMH is well-positioned to make a transformational impact in the field of mental health research.
“I have seen the devastating impact of mental illness on individuals and their families; I want to provide support to the next generation of researchers and scientists to pursue the research that will directly transform care.”
“In order to enable quantum leaps forward, this gift will also support high-risk, high-reward research,” it continued.
The donation is the largest ever given to a mental health charity in Canada.
Last year, HRD Canada spoke to Jim Treliving, star of Dragons’ Den, as one of CAMH’s 150 Leading Canadians for Mental Health. Take a look at the revealing interview here.
