HR directors at the world’s biggest firms are using left-of-centre tactics in the interview room by asking simple questions about the company and its business.

This is junk, just because Google or whoever are supposedly asking these questions doesn't prove that they help to select the best candidates or even that they produce the best fit in an organization. Before running out and asking stupid questions if an organization really wants to be cutting edge they should test validity and reliability of questions and prove that they have a tool that will provide superior results for the organization. Publishing articles such as this one shows a lack of understanding of interview techniques and propagates poor HR practices.
