I have been interviewing for over 20 years and have never (nor ever would) looked at a bit of scruff on the cover of the book so to speak. I hired a gentleman many years ago and when he had been with us a while he said he was worried he might not get the job as he had bought his suit at a thrift store. I told him the first time I did not hire someone because I thought they were not dressed impeccably is the day I would stop interviewing, he was hired on the strengths of his skills not his wardrope. A lot of us have been down in our luck at one time or another. Treat people as you would want to be treated and you cannot go wrong. By the way he was a great employee, just needed a chance and I am grateful I looked beyond the worn cuffs.
