A workers compensation board has been ordered to pay out benefits to a firefighter who was subjected to homophobic abuse and harassment in the workplace

I find it incredibly disturbing that the ignorance of the homophobic Firefighters with whom this gentleman worked would cause them to go so far as to tamper with his PPE to the point of endangering his life. Where was management when this was occurring? Surely there should be some significant sanctions against a management team that would allow this to happen? I feel it is improbable that they were not aware of the magnitude of this issue. Education, training and policies against such behavior need to be implemented immediately. Shame on you Canadian Forces- Halifax. Feel free to join us in this century.

Can you please provide the link to the decision? Thanks.

I agree, disgusting!! In this day and age to think firefighters who are seen to be sensitive, caring life savers would treat a co-worker so terribly only because of his sexual orientation is unbelievable. Is this ignorance, low self esteem or just plain mean, I'm not sure, I've always understood the fire fighting community to be a very family oriented and close knit environment very sad that it only takes something like this to make those close/small minded fire fighters react this way. I hope those He-men are ashamed of themselves!!
