These are Canada's top tech employers

From Canada’s Top 100 Employers list for 2019, HRD has compiled the best of the best among employers in the technology sector.

The country’s top talent are known to eye these organisations for their physical workplace, culture, benefits, employee communications, performance management, training and skills development, and community involvement, according to the annual recognition.

More than 20 companies included in this year’s roster come from tech. Here are some we’ve profiled:

Accenture

  • Spends approx. $3,200 per employee on training and development
  • Includes tuition subsidies, formal mentoring, and leadership training
  • Offers parental leave benefits and payments of up to 16 weeks for new moms and dads
  • Offers to reduce work-related travel upon new parents’ return to the office

Adobe Systems Canada

  • Revamped physical work environment based on employee feedback
  • Offers sit/stand workstations, collaborative spaces, and informal break rooms
  • Provides parental leave payments of up to 100% of salary for up to 26 weeks
  • Adoptive parents receive a subsidy of up to $5,000
  • Offers tuition subsidies of up to $10,000 and formal mentoring

Ceridian

  • Launched a career exploration program to help workers assess internal career options
  • Provides financial benefits:
    • Employee referral bonuses
    • Personal computer purchase plan
    • Home internet subsidies
    • Discounted home loan and auto lease rates
  • Established the “Ceridian Cares” charity to help communities where Ceridian has a presence

Cisco

  • Provides parental leave payments of up to 100% of salary for up to 13 weeks
  • Offers financial incentives:
    • Profit sharing
    • Signing bonuses
    • Discounts on automobiles, home internet and mobile phone service, and software
  • Provides tuition subsidies of up to $7,500, and in-house and online training programs

Shopify

  • Opened amenities such as an employee lounge with video games, foosball, and ping pong; indoor go-kart track; exercise room; and cafeteria with free healthy lunch and snacks
  • Allots $5,000 per employee for health and wellness spending; charitable giving; or retirement savings
  • Provides parental leave payments of up to 85% of salary for up to 34 weeks

Thomson Reuters

  • Offers discounts to its impressive suite of educational and professional resources
  • Hosts in-house and online training programs and provides tuition subsidies up to $5,250
  • Supports charitable initiatives and employees’ volunteer efforts and matches donations
  • Offers a share purchase plan and financial benefits:
    • Profit sharing
    • Year-end bonuses
    • Referral bonuses of up to $1,500
