Years in HR
The worst job you ever had
Working in a meat processing plant – had to work for 8 hours in a freezer. I don’t handle cold very well so I didn’t last for a very long time.
Your first job in HR
Working at a large call center as the Benefits and RRSP Administrator for the site.
The most outrageous (and best) company perks you’ve experienced
One of the best perks I have experienced is a Fitness Club Membership Reimbursement Program. But, I think the perks that mean the much to me are the small things – things like company apparel, BBQs, or candy on Halloween.
What inspires you
Helping others is so fulfilling and rewarding. I love the feeling I get when an employee tells me how much my extra effort meant to them.
The best thing about working in HR
The ability to balance the needs of the organization with the needs of the employees to ensure a win-win situation for both parties.
Being the messenger for bad news.
Does HR have a place at the boardroom table
Absolutely, but it must be earned. HR Professionals need to make the effort to speak the language of business.
What are the biggest challenges facing HR?
Employee engagement and retaining key talent. It is so essential to the overall good of the organization, but can definitely present challenges.
