After finishing her HRM course in 2011, Charity Lawrence began working for the HR department of the City of St. John’s as a clerk, and was promoted to HR assistant shortly after. In 2014, she moved into her current position and was assigned to handle labour relations and unionized recruitment, which involved participating in contract negotiations that were tied up with pension reform.

Apart from managing regular recruitment and decentralizing a portion of the process to improve efficiency, Lawrence was tasked to lead the installation of an applicant tracking system and coordinate with the vendor on how to incorporate the company’s recruitment process. This has entailed creating new processes and training material, conducting demos, and studying IT systems more intensively. She has accomplished all this while working on a degree in HR and labour relations.
