Your first job in HR
My first “real” job in HR was HR Manager at the Grand Bend Area Community Health Centre. Before that I performed HR duties in positions of increasing responsibility leading to the position of HR Manager.

The most outrageous (and best) company perks you’ve experienced
At one job I earned lunch compliments of the President of the company and the privilege of driving his convertible Mercedes Benz to and from the lunch venue.

The best company perk that I have experienced is the flexibility to be able to regulate my own work schedule, which helps me to balance my work and family life.

What inspires you
I am inspired by my children and anyone who is boldly doing what they really LOVE to do.

The best thing about working in HR
The ability to creatively work within the boundaries set by policy and legislation to develop a system, process or problem resolution that makes sense and is fair to everyone involved.

The worst
Terminations are never fun!

Does HR have a place at the boardroom table
YES! HR should drive and fully participate in Strategic Planning. HR leads the development of the organization’s future decision makers.

What are the biggest challenges facing HR?
Creating opportunities and keeping employees engaged; communication and control of the organization’s brand in the “Internet Age”; recruitment of top talent into executive leadership positions
