    For managers everywhere: remember also that carpet bombing engagement often backfires! Make sure that when you address engagement issues it is on the individual level. I.E., I once received a note from my direct manager saying, "Thank you, Kim, you are a valuable contributor to the team." I was working hard and glad someone noticed... until I saw the same card on 30 other desks of the same team: it not only undid the positivity, it put me in a slump for the rest of the week; know your staff, or you will come across ungenuine.
